Beech Tansu Chest
| We used a basic design to bring simple, clean lines to this piece; then let the lively veneer and exposed joinery continue the story. The veneer of choice was derived from two extremely unique pieces of solid beech, taking great care to match each slice in such a way that every shimmering ripple, every detail complimented each other.
Notice the through dovetails on the box, the sliding dovetails on the grainmatched rails, the through tenons connecting the stretchers with the mahogany legs. Each joint was hand fit to enhance the natural appeal of the chest. Once satisfied with the construction, we applied a single wash coat of blonde shellac to maximize light refraction, followed by clear lacquer. Finally, we fastened handmade Japanese hardware to accent a truly stylish piece. |
